Mercedes is working hard to develop the third generation of the ML SUV. The German automotive producer’s engineers still have enough to do, as the vehicle isn’t expected to reach showroom floors before the second half of next year. Anxious to see what the Germans are cooking, we got news from our spy photographer friends that they caught the car’s prototype once again. So, here you are, a set of images that give us an idea of what the future M-Klasse will look like.

From what we can see in the pictures, the SUV will keep its current proportions and will not follow the usual trend that sees most new generations vehicles gaining a few inches in certain areas. Actually, the future ML might ditch a few inches off its length. Regardless of the vehicle’s dimensions, we can be sure of one thing: the car will tip the scales at a lower value than the current generation’s one, as the market demands increased efficiency.

The new M-Klasse will be an evolution in terms of exterior design, with the vehicle receiving a multitude of subtle changes. The most visible modifications will be found at the rear doors, side mirrors, the door handles, the roof rack and the rear window. As for the engine range, the SUV will use a somewhat similar line-up to what the Mercedes currently offers. This means that it will get petrol units with displacements between 3.5 and 5.5 liters that will deliver between 306 and 541 hp. Diesel lovers will receive powerplants with a size of between 3 and 4 liters, with power ratings of between 204 and 354 hp. In addition to that, the ML will get at least a hybrid version (just like the current incarnation of the vehicle).
