General Motors has decided to unveil the Chevrolet Aveo hatchback ahead of it’s debut at this month’s Paris Motor Show. The 5-door Aveo which is inspired by the Aveo RS show car is longer and wider compared to the previous model. Design wise the new Aveo definitely looks better than the model it replaces but at the same there is nothing to shout about with this version. The Ford Fiesta or even the Mazda2 makes a bigger impact.
Interior wise, the hatchback features a motorcycle-inspired instrument binnacle with an analogue tachometer as well as a digital speedometer and warning lights. There is also blue backlighting while the front cabin which features a wrap-around fascia can be colour-coded and it will flow into both the driver’s and front passenger’s door. This concept is similar to the Cruze.
General Motors also said that the Aveo offers multiple storage storage compartments and that buyers will “appreciate the quality materials used in the interior”. The interior also sports USB, aux-in and Bluetooth functionality. The Aveo also benefits from a tight body frame integral (BFI) structure which is said to offer higher rigidity. It was revealed that it’s chassis has been fine-tuned to satisfy European requirements “with a ride and handling ratio that combines comfort with responsiveness”. Other standard goodies include ABS, Electronic power steering (EPS) and Electronic stability control (ESC). Several petrol and diesel engines have been lined-up for the Aveo including a 70hp and 86hp 1.2 liter, a 100hp 1.4 liter as well as a 115hp 1.6 liter. The diesel front is made up by a 75hp 1.3 liter as well as 95hp version of it. Both diesel options are fitted with an engine start/stop system.
Transmission wise, both 5 and 6-speed manuals are available including a 6-speed automatic, which is Chevrolet’s first in the small car segment. The Chevrolet Aveo will be launched next summer along with a sedan variant. Continue reading to view high-res versions of the images above.
