The first Chevrolet MPV for the European market has arrived in Paris, where it is on display for the media at the auto show which kicked off today. Based on the Chevrolet Cruze, the MPV is intended to tap into a growing segment of the European automotive market. The Old Continent will receive the model with a choice of three engines, only one of which is petrol. This unit is a 1.8l engine which develops 141 hp. The diesel units, based on Chevrolet's 2.0l engine, come with outputs of 131 hp and 163 hp.
"The new Orlando MPV kicks off an ambitious seven-product launch program over the next 15 months,” Wayne Brannon, president and managing director for Chevrolet Europe, said in a statement. "We're confident the Orlando not only brings great value for money to the MPV class but also something fresh - function with attitude if you like - and the opportunity for us to continue building our volume across Europe. I believe it will also bring more new customers to the Chevrolet brand."
The model will be shipped to European dealers in early 2011. There are no plans to market the model in the US, but Canada might get it sometime in 2011 as well. Prices and official launch dates will be announced later in the year. The Orlando is not the only model shown by the American manufacturer in the French capital. Several other novelties are waiting for the visitors, including the reinterpreted versions of the Captiva and Aveo.
