The Mercedes Benz SL - the supermodel is starting to undress herself, showing increasingly more skin, before she gets bare naked in the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Our dedicated team of spy photographers have managed to snap a set of photos showing the outlines from the 2012 hard-top convertible. It would appear that the SLS-insipred rhinoplasty would be a total success and it will complement the larger rear fenders that look like those found on the E-Klasse. Though its proportions seem like the current model, a closer inspection reveals several subtle differences such as the shorter rear overhang and the taller bonnet.
What’s much more interesting is the fact that our spy photographers say that the SL was in several vehicles which included an Aston Martin Vantage Roadster and a Jaguar XK, likely for benchmarking purposes. The engine rage will be almost completely new and can kick off with only two powerplants - a 3.5-liter V6 along with a 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8. There’s even speculation of a hybrid version coming, however the AMG 63 is expected to get the impressive twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 with upwards of 571 horsepower on tap.
The following few years will see an onslaught of recent Mercedes-Benz models launched, using the recently revealed SLK-Klasse and C-Klasse Coupe, plus brand new versions of the A- and B-Klasse, and next-generation ML. We’ve also heard rumors that the SLS gets a baby brother to be known as the SLC, and there’s a new flagship four-door coupe, called the uber-CLS.
