BMW Japan has just released details of a super limited edition of their E89 BMW Z4 model, which will only be available on the Japanese market. Called the BMW Z4 “Silver Top”, it features a number of cosmetic changes brought to both the outside and the inside of the model.

The exterior of the car is finished in Black Sapphire paint finished with the folding metal hardtop done in the color that gives the car is name, Silver. The whole look of the car now resembles that of an aftermarket custom paint job. On the inside of the car nothing has changed as compared to when it left the factory, with the exception of the seats that have been covered in Coral Deep Red Kansas leather. All "Silver Top" models will only come in this color combination.

The base model of the Silver Top range is the Z4 sDrive23i with an inline six 2.5-liter engine coupled with a 6-speed Automatic gearbox. The engine churns out 200 hp starting from 6300 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at about 2750-3000rpm.

The limited edition model, set to be released in April 2012, is priced at JPY5,590,000 which is about $68,829 in today’s exchange rate. The high price is not really justified in our eyes, even if the car’s top was to be painted in real Gold rather then Silver. BMW used to be known for their tight handling and driving sensation, a fact that was least considered by the makers of the current Z4. We would much rather have enjoyed a car with a fixed carbon roof and stiffer suspension. [autoevolution]
